SERVICES & APPROACH
EVIDENCE-BASED Psychological Care for Mental Health, Health, & Performance
Individualized care for adolescents, adults, and families seeking meaningful improvement in mental health, daily functioning, health, and performance.
At Commonwealth Center for Behavioral Medicine, we combine evidence-based psychological care with individualized treatment to address a broad range of mental health, behavioral, health-related, and performance concerns. Our approach is grounded in clinical expertise and informed by each person's needs, goals, and circumstances.
WHO WE SERVE
Care Across Adolescence, Adulthood, and Family Systems
Adolescents & Young Adults
Evidence-based care for young people navigating anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, trauma, emotion dysregulation, and other psychological and behavioral concerns.
We help adolescents and young adults develop greater self-understanding, psychological flexibility, and effective coping skills while navigating academic demands, relationships, identity development, and the transition toward greater independence. For young adults struggling to establish independence, treatment may address the behavioral, emotional, and family patterns contributing to "failure to launch."
Adults & Professionals
Individualized care for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, chronic stress, sleep difficulties, and other concerns affecting work, relationships, health, or daily functioning.
Treatment may also address emotional regulation, executive functioning, cognitive flexibility, and performance under stress when these factors interfere with functioning. Behavioral Sleep Medicine, including CBT-I, is available for sleep difficulties affecting health or daily life.
Parents, Caregivers, & Families
Supporting parents and caregivers in understanding behavior, improving family functioning, and developing effective strategies for challenging situations.
Services may include parent consultation and coaching, Functional Behavioral Analysis when clinically appropriate, family therapy, and targeted behavioral interventions. For younger children, treatment often focuses primarily on working with parents and caregivers to change patterns within the home environment.
PRIMARY PRACTICE AREAS
Our work spans four interconnected areas of clinical care
EVIDENCE-BASED APPROACHES & SPECIALIZED SERVICES
Treatment, Individualized to You
-
ACT helps people develop psychological flexibility by changing their relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences rather than trying to eliminate them.
ACT emphasizes present-moment awareness, acceptance, values clarification, and committed action. Treatment helps individuals respond more flexibly to difficult internal experiences and take purposeful action in the direction of what matters to them.
-
Behavioral Sleep Medicine uses cognitive and behavioral interventions to address difficulties with sleep and improve healthy sleep patterns.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) addresses the behavioral patterns, sleep-related thoughts, and environmental factors that can contribute to persistent sleep difficulties. Treatment may include strategies targeting sleep schedules, sleep-related behaviors, and thoughts and emotions that interfere with sleep. When appropriate, interventions can also involve parent and caregiver coaching for younger children.
-
CBT examines the connections among thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and the situations in which they occur.
CBT helps individuals identify patterns that may be contributing to distress or interfering with functioning and develop more effective ways of thinking, behaving, and responding. Treatment is typically structured, collaborative, goal-oriented, and focused on developing practical skills that can be applied outside of sessions.
-
DBT is an evidence-based treatment originally developed for individuals with chronic suicidal behavior and has since been adapted for a range of psychological and behavioral difficulties.
DBT integrates acceptance and change strategies and teaches practical skills across four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Treatment helps individuals navigate intense emotions, reduce ineffective behavioral patterns, and respond more skillfully to difficult situations.
-
ERP is a specialized form of CBT and a first-line behavioral treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
ERP involves gradually and systematically approaching feared thoughts, situations, or sensations while reducing reliance on compulsive or avoidant responses. Exposures are collaboratively developed and paced according to the individual's treatment goals, with an emphasis on learning that anxiety and uncertainty can be tolerated without relying on compulsions.
-
Parents and caregivers can play an important role in helping children and adolescents develop more effective behavioral and emotional patterns.
Parent and caregiver coaching provides practical strategies for responding to challenging behaviors, reducing unhelpful interaction patterns, strengthening communication, and creating greater consistency across the home environment. Depending on the clinical situation, treatment may also address family accommodation, boundaries, reinforcement patterns, and other factors that contribute to ongoing difficulties.
-
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines ketamine administration with a structured psychotherapeutic process for carefully selected patients.
KAP is a specialized treatment approach that integrates the effects of ketamine with psychotherapy before, during, and after medication sessions. At Commonwealth Center for Behavioral Medicine, KAP is considered within a broader clinical formulation and may be appropriate for selected individuals with complex or treatment-resistant presentations. Treatment emphasizes careful assessment, coordination with the prescribing/medical team, psychological preparation, clinical support, and integration of experiences into ongoing therapeutic work.
-
A structured process for understanding the environmental and behavioral factors contributing to challenging or ineffective patterns.
FBA examines what happens before and after a behavior, the contexts in which it occurs, and the factors that may be maintaining it. This information can be used to develop targeted behavioral interventions and more effective strategies for parents, caregivers, schools, or other relevant settings.
