About CCBM
-
Commonwealth Center for Behavioral Medicine is a private-pay psychological practice providing evidence-based care across mental health, behavioral medicine, health psychology, and performance. We work with adolescents, adults, and families, tailoring treatment to each person's needs, circumstances, and goals.
Our approach emphasizes not only reducing psychological symptoms, but also improving functioning and helping individuals translate psychological insight into meaningful, sustainable change.
-
CCMB brings together several areas of psychological care that are often provided separately, including evidence-based psychotherapy, behavioral medicine, health psychology, and performance psychology.
This integrated approach can be particularly useful when psychological, behavioral, health-related, and performance factors interact. Rather than treating these concerns in isolation, we consider how they influence one another and develop treatment around the individual's goals and circumstances.
-
We work with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families. Our clients may be experiencing concerns related to mental health, relationships, health behaviors, academic or athletic performance, work, or important developmental transitions.
We also provide specialized care for people whose concerns are more complex or who have not benefited sufficiently from previous treatment.
Treatment
-
CCBM works with a broad range of psychological, behavioral, and health-related concerns, including anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma and grief, emotion regulation, ADHD and executive functioning, sleep difficulties, body-focused repetitive behaviors, chronic pain, and performance concerns.
We also work with more complex presentations, including significant comorbidity, treatment-resistant difficulties, developmental transitions, and failure-to-launch concerns.
A complete list is available on our Areas of Focus page.
-
Treatment is individualized rather than based on a single therapeutic model. Depending on the presenting concerns and treatment goals, treatment may draw from:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Behavioral Sleep Medicine and CBT-I
Family and caregiver interventions
Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), when clinically appropriate
The goal is to use the approaches that are best suited to the individual rather than applying the same treatment to everyone.
-
Evidence-based care means that treatment is informed by the best available scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and the individual circumstances, preferences, and goals of the person receiving care.
We believe psychological treatment should be both scientifically grounded and clinically individualized.
-
"Centered. Clarity. Choice. Change." describes the way we think about psychological treatment.
Centered means developing greater awareness of yourself and your circumstances.
Clarity means understanding the patterns that influence how you think, feel, and behave.
Choice means developing greater flexibility in how you respond.
Change means translating that understanding into purposeful action. These principles guide our work rather than representing a specific treatment program.
-
The initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to treatment, what you hope to accomplish, and whether CCBM may be an appropriate fit.
We may also discuss relevant aspects of your history, current circumstances, and treatment needs, as well as possible next steps. The consultation is not a commitment to begin treatment.
-
There is no predetermined treatment length. Duration depends on the nature and complexity of the concerns being addressed, treatment goals, progress, and the individual's circumstances.
Some concerns may benefit from relatively focused treatment, while others call for longer-term care or periodic follow-up.
Specialized Services
-
Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology address the ways psychological, behavioral, and physical health factors interact. At CCBM, this work may include concerns such as sleep difficulties, chronic pain, medication-related anxiety or adherence, exercise and other health behaviors, and toileting or elimination concerns. Treatment focuses on practical, evidence-based strategies that can improve health, daily functioning, and quality of life.
-
Yes. CCBM provides Behavioral Sleep Medicine services, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Treatment addresses the behavioral, cognitive, and environmental factors that contribute to sleep difficulties and is individualized to each person's sleep patterns, circumstances, and goals.
-
Yes. Performance psychology is an important area of CCBM's clinical work.
We work with athletes on concerns such as performance anxiety, attentional control, confidence, motivation, emotional regulation, responding to mistakes and setbacks, and performing effectively under pressure.
The same principles can also be applied to academic, professional, and other performance settings.
-
Yes. Executive functioning work may address difficulties with planning, organization, time management, task initiation, prioritization, attention, follow-through, and translating plans and intentions into action.
These services can be particularly relevant for adolescents, college students, adults, and individuals with ADHD or other challenges affecting daily functioning.
-
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is available as a specialized service for carefully selected individuals when clinically appropriate. When used, psychotherapy is coordinated with the appropriate medical provider responsible for ketamine prescribing and administration.
KAP integrates ketamine administration with psychological preparation, therapeutic support, and post-session integration. When used, it is incorporated into a broader treatment plan with appropriate attention to medical coordination, safety, preparation, and integration.
Because ketamine administration involves medical considerations, appropriate medical collaboration and coordination are part of the process.
Practical Questions
-
No. CCBM is a private-pay, out-of-network practice and does not bill insurance directly.
Clients are provided with itemized superbills that they may submit to their insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement vary by insurance plan, so clients should confirm their benefits directly with their insurer.

Coordination can be particularly important when psychological, behavioral, and medical factors intersect.
